Residential psychotherapy programmes

Anyone going through a difficult period in their life can, with the help of experts, not only improve their quality of life but also learn to look after themselves better. At the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre, we therefore place emphasis on therapeutic goals aimed at strengthening self-development and self-control, as well as on preventing high-risk situations. Developing social skills and providing support in dealing with both everyday and more complex life challenges are also priorities.

In this regard, the basis of our psychotherapeutic programme is always the patient’s voluntary cooperation with our staff. Treatment then takes place primarily in the form of individual and group therapy sessions. During these, we focus specifically on psychosocial rehabilitation, which can be thought of as a return to normal life following trauma.

Psychotherapy Unit for clients with borderline personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder

This residential therapeutic programme is specifically designed for patients suffering from borderline personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It lasts six weeks, during which clients are placed in different therapeutic groups according to the type of their condition. Treatment consists of community meetings and group psychotherapy, and also includes complementary therapies such as music therapy, art therapy and movement therapy as an integral part of the programme. All healthcare costs are covered by health insurance.

The programme also includes a wide range of physical activities in the swimming pool and gym, tailored to clients’ individual abilities and needs. Clients can also take part in creative workshops or drama therapy, for example.

The structure of the entire therapeutic programme has been developed by the leading Czech psychiatrist, Prof. MUDr. Ján Praško Pavlov, CSc. The programme content has been carefully designed to provide maximum support and tools for alleviating the symptoms associated with the relevant conditions. Last but not least, although most of the treatment takes place in a group setting, we pay close attention to the individual needs of each client.

An example of a typical day in therapy

The day begins after 7.00 am. After their morning hygiene routine, patients gather for an activity session based on a story. At 8.00 am, it is time for breakfast, followed by a regular ward round during which the attending physician attends to the patients. The morning concludes with a group session, where patients are introduced to psychotherapeutic education and also have the opportunity for open communication with staff.

The morning part of the programme continues at half past ten, when patients gather for group psychotherapy. They are divided into groups according to the specific nature of their difficulties. Lunch is then served at twelve o’clock.

The afternoon part of the programme begins with an individual session, which starts at half past twelve, when patients have individual therapy once a week. This is followed by two blocks of therapy (art, movement, music, etc.).

After the individual/complementary therapy sessions, patients have free time to spend as they wish, followed by a relaxation session. From 8.00 pm, there is a community gathering linked to the club – an activity organised by the patients, which serves to help them unwind and build team spirit. Quiet time, during which everyone retires to bed to recharge their batteries for the following day, begins at 10.00 pm.

Psychotherapy Unit for clients with anxiety and depressive disorders

The six-week residential psychotherapy programme is designed for clients struggling with mental health issues such as depressive disorders, panic disorders, generalised anxiety disorders, agoraphobia, social phobia or adjustment disorders. All healthcare is fully covered by health insurance.

The programme lasts six weeks, during which clients are accommodated in well-appointed twin rooms with en-suite facilities. In addition to psychotherapeutic elements, the programme also includes the opportunity to take part in a wide range of physical activities in the swimming pool and gym, tailored to clients’ individual abilities and needs.

The structure of the entire therapeutic programme has been devised by the leading Czech psychiatrist, Prof. MUDr. Ján Praško Pavlov, CSc. The programme content has been carefully designed to provide maximum support and tools to alleviate the difficulties clients face as a result of their illness.

The psychotherapeutic programme for ADHD patients takes place only 2 - 3 times a year. The next run of the programme begins on March 2, 2026 and patients with a confirmed diagnosis of ADHD are currently available for appointments.

Psychotherapy programme for ADHD patients

The psychotherapy programme is designed for clients over the age of 17 who have been confirmed by a doctor or psychologist with a diagnosis of ADHD and would like to learn to work better with their symptoms, gain support from professionals and other clients' experiences, and become more educated about their diagnosis.

During the treatment, clients can expect a combination of group psychotherapy sessions, individual psychotherapy and educational blocks, as well as creative activities or sports. The programme is led by Tereza Petrásková, M.D., Ph. D., together with one of the top Czech psychiatrists, Prof. Ján Prasek Pavlov, M.D., CSc.

The entire programme lasts four weeks and is fully covered by health insurance. It is loosely related to the diagnostic-educational programme for patients with suspected ADHD or other attention deficit disorder, but it is also intended for those who have not attended this programme before.

Appointments for the programme can be made by calling 311 745 888 or emailing balikova@nember.cz
