The main topic of conversation was stress, which is a big issue for most of modern society. However, MUDr. Hollý points out that stress itself is not a problem, as it has been a part of human life since prehistoric times. The problem arises when stress never stops. "Stress in itself is not harmful, the problem is that we can't turn it off and we can't build up the capacity to handle it," the doctor explained in the podcast. He also added that chronic stress is neurotoxic and is one of the causes of depression.
There was also the related topic of rest and how to actually "switch off" properly. "Society confuses leisure with leisure activities. Only these are no longer leisure because they are scheduled and usually carry with them some level of stress. We should be able to be bored. Boredom is the time we spend just with ourselves, and it is crucial for proper relaxation," emphasizes Hollý, MD.
In addition, the podcast also touched on other topics such as the mental resilience of the younger generation, seasonal depression or the effect artificial intelligence has on us and whether it helps or hurts more.
