Mindwell will make mental health care available to all who need it

Mental health is the topic of the 21st century. Pandemics, war and economic crises have shown that no one is immune to major stress and mental upheaval. Half a million people a year see a psychiatrist, and about two million people would be advised by experts to see one. Nor is the situation in psychotherapy easy. There is a months-long wait for treatment from specialists, and the Czech Republic is trying to find ways to improve the situation and alternative solutions. There is broad agreement that psychotherapy is one of the most effective methods of prevention and treatment. But at a time when many people are also using technology in mental health, a digital platform to facilitate access to therapy has not yet been made available. Mindwell is the solution.

Cognitive-behavioural components are not missing

Nowadays, you can still meet with a therapist in an online environment, for example via video chat. This solution saves time, for example, because you don't have to travel anywhere. The Mindwell platform brings a more innovative solution. It offers psychotherapy programmes that work on the basis of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). The cognitive component, i.e. what needs to be understood in therapy, is conveyed to the client through psychoeducation. Through the use of videos, quizzes and case studies, the client learns to understand their problems.

Another important component is the behavioural component. Through interactive exercises, the client applies the techniques learned to their own symptoms and problems. KBT is based on the premise that through frequent repetition of the newly learned procedures, the client will develop a new approach to solving his/her problems, thereby alleviating negative experiences and emotions. He or she looks at things in a more structured way and with better perspective. The techniques learned can then be applied to any situation: what one learns can be applied to one's various distresses, from job loss or break-ups to the most challenging situations such as a death in the family.

The authors are top experts

The author of our programmes is Professor Ján Praško and his expert team. The programmes are spread over 12 weeks, with one module per week, where each module corresponds to one session with a therapist. The therapeutic steps build on each other logically each week and become progressively more difficult. The first six modules focus on change and the remaining six focus on maintenance of the learned practices. In the module, the client completes diagnostic questionnaires, which the therapist uses to monitor his or her psychological state, again on a weekly basis. He goes through education, videos, case studies and interactive exercises. He then sends the completed module to his therapist. There are already dozens of therapists working on the platform. They are graduates of a five-year psychotherapy training in cognitive-behavioural therapy and are selected and supervised by Professor Prasek.

The quality of the therapy remains

The therapist monitors the client's condition by opening the patient's waiting room in their own online environment. He can see exactly what a particular person has filled out, he is not pressed for time, he only sees the individual responses of the client and does not have to read things that are not important to him. Mindwell is the solution to the shortage of quality therapists. "We have verified that our therapists can evaluate up to four clients in one hour. Yet data from abroad shows that this outcome is comparable to face-to-face therapy. Quality is not affected," says Jelena Holomany, founder of Mindwell. She herself studied in London, where similar applications are common. People use them for excessive stress, anxiety, obsessions or depressive states. Problems don't necessarily mean mental illness, which is why Mindwell includes both prevention and clinical programmes. Why not work on mental resilience too?

"Our therapists can evaluate up to four clients in one hour!"

"Therapy is individualized and targets the exact specific issues of a particular person because everyone writes their own issues into their e-program. Our therapists are trained and have gone through a series of training sessions directly at Mindwell. They handle the feedback so that they give people care comparable to that given in person," Holomany adds.

"Mindwell is the solution to the shortage of quality therapists."

So who is digital therapeutic care right for?

In everyone's life there is an accumulation of stressful and mentally challenging situations. Sadness, stress, worry, concern or feelings of anxiety are all natural experiences. If they last too long, you may develop psychological problems that you can no longer cope with on your own. Mindwell can help you find solutions and improve your psychological and mental resilience.
