Insomnia can compromise mental and physical health. The CDR inpatient unit helps with its treatment

And it's not just that sleepiness affects our performance and attention during the day. Long-term sleep deprivation or poor sleep quality also leads to irritability, a decline in mental well-being and takes a toll on physical health - because the body doesn't have enough space to regenerate. Long-term insomnia is therefore a serious problem that should not be ignored.

That is why the Centre for Mental Rehabilitation has established a cognitive-behavioural inpatient unit for the treatment of insomnia. As David Pánek , the head of the Sleep Medicine Centre under which the group falls, says: "It is crucial for us that we can help people who cannot sleep in a long-term and effective way. During treatment, they learn the basic rules of sleep hygiene, undergo an individual sleep analysis and practice appropriate procedures that lead to an improvement in the quality and duration of sleep. In addition, patients can benefit from complementary neurostimulation therapy, one of the modern methods of treating insomnia."

The inpatient group meets once a week, on Mondays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. The program includes five meetings and one final evaluation meeting four weeks apart. The inpatient group is based on the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy and in each session patients try different exercises based on this method. Each session also has a movement component with relaxation techniques and physical exercises. Thus, completing the program not only helps with improving the quality of sleep, but also with enhancing physical well-being.

Those interested can book an appointment via the online form on the Mental Rehabilitation Centre website - just select the option "I have insomnia problems". Admission to the inpatient group is always preceded by an indication examination, during which the patient discusses his/her problems and medical history with a specialist. The doctor will also explain in detail how the treatment will work and what patients can expect from it.

The inpatient insomnia treatment centre is part of the emerging Sleep Medicine Centre, which will focus on treating all major sleep disorders - in addition to insomnia, it will also treat snoring, sleep apnoea or unusual sleep behaviour. The Centre is also unique in that, by being integrated into the Mental Rehabilitation Centre, it can combine the treatment of sleep disorders with psychiatric care.
