The electric car, which replaced the already retired Peugeot 206, "caught fire" on Wednesday, 6 September, ten minutes before 6 pm. This was due to a technical fault in the wiring during charging. Firefighters used a special smoke generator to activate the electric fire alarm sensor located in the garage area. This triggered an acoustic alarm almost immediately and also alerted the hospital's door staff, who, according to the scenario, immediately reported the fire to the 150 emergency line.
The Regional Operations Centre sent professional firefighters from Beroun and Hořovice to intervene. The command car from the Beroun station was on the scene within five minutes and shortly afterwards the first tankers arrived. "During the exercise, the arrival times of the units, the deployment of the equipment, the tactical procedures of the commanders, including cooperation with the designated staff of the centre, are verified. We also familiarize firefighters with the building and the practical function of the installed fire safety equipment," summarized the director of the Beroun Territorial Department, Col. Ing. Tomáš Hradil, who was present at the intervention and evaluated the exercise positively.
Volunteer fire brigade units from Králův Dvůr, Zdice and Chyňava also intervened at the site and, among other things, tested the availability of water from the fire tank and carried out reconnaissance activities in the CDR building. They simulated their deployment in case of further fire development.
Due to the nature of the event, Prague firefighters also arrived at the hospital premises, bringing a Toyota Hilux fire rescue special. They then transported the damaged electric vehicle from the garage area to a safe place by way of a demonstration. In the event of an acute intervention, a special container for extinguishing electric cars from Slany would still be used.
The course and reasons for the exercise are also explained by the Deputy for Project Management of AKESO Holding Mgr. Pavel Scholz, Ph.D., who is in charge of the Mental Rehabilitation Centre project from 2021:
"I am very pleased that the Central Bohemian firefighters successfully tested our building for an event such as a fire. This exercise, and the actions taken from it, was part of a comprehensive series of testing that will thoroughly prepare the facility for all kinds of emergencies. So that my staff and I know what to do and how to do it in such situations. I am pleased that the entire Mental Rehabilitation Centre and the state-of-the-art technology used there have passed the test with flying colours. Many thanks to everyone who participated in the exercise!" said Scholz.
