AKESO Healthcare Holding, a leading healthcare provider in the Czech Republic, officially introduced the One-Day Care Centre, which provides state-of-the-art medical care using the latest diagnostic and treatment methods, this morning at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun. The presentation of the Centre was attended by the Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek, who looked at the operating theatres directly during one of the arthroscopic operations and then personally inspected the Beroun Centre.

"I fully support the practice of same-day medicine. In Western Europe it is the standard and prerequisite for modern healthcare. I see benefits for the whole system, for patients and for health care providers," said Health Minister Vlastimil Válek.

Overnight surgery has been increasingly used by doctors and patients in recent years and the AKESO Holding's Overnight Care Centre offers a wide range of benefits in this area. "A significant advantage of our facility is that we offer everything under one roof. From the examination by a doctor, pre-operative examinations, surgery and subsequent rehabilitation. All of this is taken care of by our top experts within a few days," explains AKESO Holding owner Sotirios Zavalianis.

Consultations to solve the health problem are provided by the Diagnostic Centre in Prague. All surgical procedures are then performed at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and the Hořovice Hospital, in a wide range of fields and procedures such as arthroscopy, day surgery, coloproctology, gynaecology, urology and plastic surgery.

The flagship of the Day Care Centre is the Arthroscopy Centre in Beroun, which is one of the most sought-after in the Czech Republic. MUDr. Zdeněk Kopečný and a team of experienced orthopaedic surgeons operate on over 5 thousand patients a year. A few days ago they had a reason to celebrate, because since 2008 they have performed 50 thousand operations.

"We are trying to make the best use of the state-of-the-art equipment at our disposal. That's why we have surgery programmes from eight in the morning to eighteen in the evening. We always have enough doctors, nurses and other staff to make everything work. In addition, we have moved up a level, about half a year now we have four operating theatres, thanks to which we are operating on a quarter more patients," praises the head doctor of the Arthroscopy Centre, MUDr. Zdeněk Kopečný.

The principle of overnight care is that modern and minimally invasive procedures are preferred for simpler procedures that do not require overnight hospitalization, but after a short bed rest, patients go home. Among the main advantages of overnight care in AKESO holding we can certainly count the maximum safety thanks to the continuity with the ARO and ICU, the use of the most modern medical materials from leading European and American manufacturers or short ordering periods, both for outpatient clinics of individual specialties and for surgical procedures.

"We place great emphasis on a personal approach to our patients and, where possible, on reducing the length of hospital stay. Minimally invasive procedures are very gentle to the operated area, which means less pain, shorter healing time, lower risk of complications and faster return to normal life," explains Petr Zeithaml, MD, Head of the Surgical Department.

All patients of the Day Care Centre have access to modern rooms with reclining beds, TV, internet access and air conditioning. Each room also includes a shower and a toilet with wheelchair access.
