Diagnosing autism can also help in adulthood. Mental Rehabilitation Centre introduces new programme

6. 3. 2026

The Center for Mental Rehabilitation (CDR) is opening a new diagnostic and educational program for patients with autism spectrum disorders or suspected autism spectrum disorders. During the twelve-day stay, these patients can learn about their diagnosis and its specifics, learn how to better work with it, and share experiences with other patients with similar diagnoses. The programme is also supervised by Prof. Ján Praško Pavlov, M.D., CSc., one of the leaders of Czech psychiatry.

"Many patients have long perceived that they are different in some ways, or that they perceive and do some things differently than the norm. Understanding and categorizing difference can bring significant relief and the associated help that is tied to getting a diagnosis," says program leader Tereza Petrásková, M.D., Ph.

Patients will receive a comprehensive collection of diagnostic and psychoeducational activities, from detailed psychological testing to educational blocks supplemented by creative or movement therapy and individual interviews with a physician or psychologist. In addition, they have the comfort of superbly equipped modern single rooms. In addition, CDR as a whole has a unique lighting system that helps regulate circadian rhythms and better sleep.

A leading Czech expert on autism spectrum disorders , Kateřina Thorová, PhD, also contributed to the design of the programme.

The program is suitable for adult patients who are interested in clarifying their diagnosis and want to learn how to work with it better, young adults who suspect autism spectrum disorder or are transitioning from pediatric to adult care and want a revision of their diagnosis.

This is not the only program focused on diagnosing specific psychiatric diagnoses and educating patients on how to better work with their symptoms that CDR offers. For more than a year, patients have been able to attend a program to diagnose ADHD and other attention disorders, also led by Petraskova, MD. The Diagnostic and Educational Department thus forms one of the basic pillars of the psychiatric care provided at CDR.
