"I was very much looking forward to the second year of this event, which we as AKESO holding are supporting again. I enjoyed discussing current and often pressing topicswith students and young doctors ," said František Vlček, M.D., Ph.D., MHA, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of AKESO Holding. "It is clear that everyone who attended this camp is interested in their development, education, their future profession, and the Czech healthcare industry. These are people we would like to welcome as our colleagues one day," he added.
More than 120 workshops and practical exercises
During the weekend programme, participants could experience more than 120 workshops on 50 different practical topics across medical disciplines - from surgery, intensive care medicine and internal medicine to neurology, psychiatry and communication skills. For example, participants tackled laparoscopic skills, practiced CPR on children
and adults, treated open fractures, selected suitable embryos for IVF or learned how to de-escalate patients' and their own emotions, and much more.
"I attended the camp in Beroun last year and was absolutely thrilled. So this year I reached out to my friends who joined me," said Tereza Vykopalová, a 4th year student at the Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. "I think it is a unique opportunity for every student to move on and to add to the knowledge that medicine offers. From the workshops I was very interested in the topic of Parkinson's disease - its symptoms, treatment and rehabilitation. This professional block really broadened my horizons. However, topics in the field of gynaecology or psychiatry were also interesting," added the student.
Discussion arena on teaching, patients and law
In addition to the practical blocks, there was also a rich discussion programme. In the debate section of the After Medina Arena, young doctors engaged in discussions on current medical topics such as The patient in the system: an efficient path or an uncluttered maze?, the quality of teaching at medical schools or Legal case studies of young doctors - or how not to get shut down.
"I was happy to participate in discussions on various interesting topics that are not only important for our future practice. In addition, I was also interested in the practical workshops, which focused on, for example, intensive care and first aid. It is great that we can test the theoretical knowledge that the faculty provides us with in practice thanks to this unique event. Moreover, the Beroun hospital impressed me with its modern environment and equipment - you really don't see that anywhere else."
Preparation for clinical practice and a change of approach to medicine
The educational event Po medina Kemp aims to systematically prepare medics and young doctors for entering clinical practice. Each year, the organisers put together a tailor-made programme for students and aspiring doctors that also emphasises society-wide themes.
"I believe that also through our camps we can change the attitude of young doctors and other professionals towards their work and the whole Czech healthcare system. We have also invited guests from the management of medical faculties, the Ministry of Health and patient organisations and together we have raised important topics of our work," said Martin Palička, MD, founder of the Po medina project and main organiser of the camp. "The fact that the autumn camp could once again be held in the unique facilities of the Centre for Mental Rehabilitation takes the event to another level. I would also like to thank the entire organizing team - both on our side and on the side of our partner, AKESO Holding," concluded Palička.
